Exorista sorbillans (Uzi fly) is a species of bristly fly in the family Tachinidae that is a parasitoid of caterpillars and is a problem for silkworm rearing in tropical regions of South Asia. For the sericulture industry, it's a major and increasingly problematic pest. The species found in India, Exorista bombycis, is sometimes synonymous with this species, but is distinct from specimens obtained from the type locality, the Canary Islands.  To overcome this problem, introduce ‘Uzi Fly Trapper.’ Due to this, the produce meets the demand markets and gives profitability to the sericulture farming.

Damages:-

The Uzi fly damages silkworms by parasitizing them, which leads to a significant reduction in cocoon yield. The fly lays eggs on the silkworm's body, and after hatching, the maggots bore inside and feed on the larva's internal tissues, killing it. If the infestation occurs later in the larval stage, the maggots may emerge from the cocoon, leaving a hole and rendering the cocoon unreelable. 

Technology:-

It is the process of attracting and trapping the adults of the Uzi fly using pheromone attraction that causes damage to the silkworm.

How to use:- 

Place or hang traps near the larva bed. Also, cover all entry points like windows, doors by hanging traps.

• If used properly can detect low numbers of insects.

• Keep reaching out to children.
